Prime Minister Narendra Modi is likely to visit Kanpur between April 15 and 17 to inaugurate the underground section of the Kanpur Metro. The last approval from the Commissioner of Metro Rail Safety is expected to be received on Monday or Tuesday next week. To open the underground metro for public use, the No Objection Certificate (NOC) will be the last step, reported Jagran.
Earlier, Dainik Jagran reported during the inspection by Metro Rail Safety Commissioner Janak Kumar Garg that the underground metro service in Kanpur may open around April 15. Initially, officials were expecting a virtual launch but now report that PM Modi may be in the city for the inaugural launch.
Public Gathering Looming At Chunniganj Ground
The location for a prospective public gathering of the Prime Minister has not been determined yet, but GIC Ground at Chunniganj has been considered suitable for the occasion. This would allow the opening to take place at the nearby Chunniganj Metro Station.
There are plans to also take the Prime Minister on the metro to Central Station. Preparations are under way in the Central Station area, to finalize beautification of the ramp and construct view-cutters to block views of the still ongoing railway construction.
Metro Public Relations Officer, Panchanan Mishra, stated that preparations are in place based on the tentative date of April 15 to 17. The corporation is working under the assumption that PM Modi will be in attendance.
