New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated a manufacturing unit of Hindustan Aeronautics (HAL) limited in Tumakuru district of Karnataka. This new unit is the largest helicopter manufacturing facility in all of Asia. At the inaugural occasion, union Defense Minister Rajnath Singh said that the inauguration of the helicopter factory of Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) is another milestone in the journey of achieving self-reliance in the defence sector.
1000 Helicopter to be manufactured in 20 years
The government aims to manufacture more than one thousand helicopters of three to four tones in the next 20 years. In the coming time, Light Combat Helicopters and Indian Multirole Helicopters will also be manufactured here.

PM Modi was also present
Along with Defense Minister Rajnath Singh, PM Modi also reached the HAL helicopter manufacturing factory in Tumakuru, karnataka. The greenfield helicopter factory of HAL is spread over 615 acres of land. HAL manufactures indigenously designed and developed multi-role utility helicopters.
Manufacturing 30 helicopters a year is initial target
As per information, Initially the factory would manufacture around 30 helicopters per year and it can be scaled up to 60 and then 90 helicopters per year incoming years. The factory will manufacture helicopters such as the Light Combat Helicopter (LCH) and the Indian Multirole Helicopter (IMRH).
