New Delhi: On the occasion of Chhath Puja Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday greeted Indians.

PM Modi tweeted, “Hearty greetings to all the countrymen on the auspicious occasion of Chhath, dedicated to the worship of Sun God and nature. With the blessings of Lord Bhaskar’s aura and Chhathi Maiya, everyone’s life should always be illuminated, that’s all I wish.” Today is the third day of Chhath Puja, known as “Sandhya Arghya.”

In Bihar, Jharkhand, and Eastern Uttar Pradesh in India and Nepal, Chhath Puja is a traditional Hindu festival that dates back thousands of years.

The four-day celebration honours Surya and Shashthi Devi and is also known as Surya Shashti, Chhath, Mahaparv, Chhath Parv, Dala Puja, Pratihar, and Dala Chhath.

Women fast as part of the ritual for their sons’ welfare and the happiness of their families. They also present Lord Surya and Chhathi Maiya with Arghya.

The major day and last day of the puja are observed on October 31, which is a Monday, capping off the four-day holiday, which began on October 28, a Friday. People observe the Chhath and adhere to strict procedures every day.

Chhath is a ritual that asks the Sun God for his blessings on a long, happy, and prosperous life. Many illnesses and disorders are said to be cured by sunshine. It has a curative function that can help the sick. A dip in the sacred river is thought to offer certain therapeutic advantages. Chhath Puja’s primary goal is to aid the Vrattis in achieving spiritual harmony and mental purity. The celebration necessitates upholding the highest level of ritual purity.

People celebrate Chhath Puja by adhering to several practises. Kaddu Bhaat or Nahai Khai is the name of the first day of Chhath Puja. The parvaitin (the primary worshipper who observes fast) prepares the Satvik Kaddu Bhaat with pulses and offers it to the deity as a bhog in the afternoon on this particular day. Kharana, or the second day of Chhath Puja, is celebrated. The parvaitin prepares roti and rice kheer on this day to give to the “Chandradevta” as a bhog (Moon God). On the third major day of Chhath Puja, a complete day of fasting without water is celebrated. Offering Arghya to the setting Sun is the primary rite of the day. The penultimate day of Chhath, the fourth, saw Dusri Arghya.
