West Bengal: Prime Minister Narendra Modi present in Delhi, virtually flagged off Northeast India’s first Vande Bharat Express train on Monday. The northeastbound Vande Bharat will run between New Jalpaiguri station in West Bengal and Guwahati in Assam.
Today, the North East is getting its first Made in India Vande Bharat Express.
About 145 km between Assam and Meghalaya. The electrification work on the railway track has been completed. The newly constructed Demo Memo shed in Lumding has also been inaugurated today. The last nine years have seen unprecedented achievements for India in building a new India.

The PM said that before 2014, the railway budget for the North East was Rs. 2,500 crore. It is now over 10,000 crore, which is a 4x increase. All parts of the Northeast will soon be connected through a broad-gauge network. 1 lakh crore is being spent on the same.

The proposed semi-high-speed train between New Jalpaiguri and Guwahati will be the first in the Northeast, the third in West Bengal, and the 18th Vande Bharat Express train in the country.

The New Jalpaiguri-Guwahati Vande Bharat Express will cover a distance of 410 km in six hours. It will run six days a week and stop at six stations, including New-Jalpaiguri and Guwahati Junction, New Alipurduar, Kokrajhar, New Bongaigaon, and Kamakhya.

The train will leave New Jalpaiguri Junction at 6.10 a.m. and reach Guwahati in the afternoon. The Vande Bharat Express will depart from Guwahati at 4.30 p.m. and reach New Jalpaiguri at around 10.20 p.m.
