In footage released by DD News, the Prime Minister was seen walking through the affected regions alongside Kerala Governor Arif Mohammed Khan, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, and Union Minister Suresh Gopi. Officials briefed Modi on the situation by presenting a map of the Wayanad landslide and providing updates on ongoing evacuation efforts.
Aerial Survey of Severely Affected Areas
Using an Indian Air Force helicopter, Modi conducted an aerial survey of the most affected areas, including Chooralmala, Mundakkai, and Punchirimattam hamlets. Chief Minister Vijayan accompanied the Prime Minister during the survey, as seen in the video.

After arriving by helicopter from Kannur airport, Modi trekked through the heavily damaged Chooralmala area to witness the destruction firsthand. He also visited a relief camp where he met and interacted with the victims and survivors of the landslide.

Rahul Gandhi’s Appeal for National Disaster Status
Earlier in the week, on Wednesday, Rahul Gandhi addressed the Lok Sabha, urging the Central government to declare the landslides in Kerala’s Wayanad a “national disaster.” He also called for a comprehensive rehabilitation package for those affected and an increase in compensation for the victims.
