New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid a visit to his Lok Sabha constituency, Varanasi, on September 23 and inaugurated 16 Atal Awasiya Vidyalayas built across Uttar Pradesh.
The motive behind its development
Developed with an investment of around Rs 1,115 crore, the Awasiya Vidyalayas have been designed to provide better education to children of labourers, construction workers, and orphans due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The idea of developing such a school came after thousands of migrant workers lost their battle against the deadliest pandemic.
Facilities at Awasiya Vidyalayas
Each school, which has been constructed at an area of 10 to 15 acres, is equipped with modern classrooms, a mini auditorium, a hostel complex, recreational areas, sports ground, mess, and residential flats for staff. Each residential school has been designed to accommodate 1,000 students at a time.

Foundation stone for international cricket stadium
Prior to inaugurating schools, PM also laid the foundation stone for the construction of an international cricket stadium in Varanasi, which will be erected at an estimated cost of Rs 450 crore. The upcoming cricket stadium, which will be Uttar Pradesh’s third international cricket stadium after Kanpur and Lucknow, will be erected in a more than 30-acre area. The stadium will reflect the religious vibes of the city with its crescent-shaped roof covers, patterns resembling bel leaves, floodlights shaped like a trident, and pavilion structured like a ‘damru‘, a hand percussion instrument used by Lord Shiva.
Additionally, Before leaving the city of ghats, PM is also scheduled to attend the closing ceremony of Kashi Sansad Sanskritik Mahotsav 2023.
