Plan for 102 Vande Bharat: Indian Railways has published a manufacturing plan for 102 Vande Bharat rakes (35 in 2022-2023 and 67 in 2023-2024), designed by Indian Railways and manufactured within Indian Railways Production Units (Integral coach factory, Rail coach factory and Modern coach factory).
The provision of Vande Bharat trains, comprising other coach items, falls under PH 21-Rolling Stock Plan (Carriages), for which Rs 19479 crore has been set aside in the Revised Budget for Fiscal Year 2022-2023. Union Railways Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw provided the information in a written reply to a question in Lok Sabha on Wednesday.
The minister announced that the first Vande Bharat Express service between New Delhi and Varanasi began on February 15, 2019. The Indian Railways (IR) network currently has 10 pairs of Vande Bharat Express trains in service.
Vaishnaw said: “A total of 75 Vande Bharat rakes are planned as Chair Car versions, with the remainder being Sleeper versions. IR also intends to build 400 Vande Bharat trains (sleeper variant) using three alternative technologies, for which Tenders have been issued to identify Technology Partners for manufacturing within IR Production Units using IR staff. In addition to the aforementioned, 8000 Vande Bharat Coaches have been envisaged in Budget 2023-24.”
