‘Physically Checked By Male Officer’: Indian Entrepreneur Shruti Chaturvedi Alleges 8-Hour Detention At US Airport, Shares Her Ordeal

Shruti Chaturvedi said she missed her Flight because she was held at the airport and wasn't allowed to make even one phone call.

An Indian businesswoman said she was held by US police and the FBI for eight hours. She said a male officer checked her body on camera, just because airport security thought her power bank looked suspicious.

Shruti Chaturvedi, an Indian entrepreneur, shared her upsetting experience at a US airport on social media. She said that she was treated badly by the US police and FBI during her detention.

She claimed that her flight was missed and she was not allowed to make even a single phone call. Her phone and wallet were also taken away while she was being held.

Detained Over a Power Bank

Chaturvedi said the whole incident happened because airport security at Alaska’s Anchorage airport found a power bank in her handbag “suspicious”.

She tagged India’s Ministry of External Affairs and Union Minister S. Jaishankar in her post on X (formerly Twitter), asking them to look into what happened to her.

Enjoying Alaska Before the Incident

Before this happened, Chaturvedi had posted several pictures from her vacation in Alaska. She shared photos of herself hiking to a snowy waterfall.

On March 30, she also posted pictures of the northern lights she saw in Alaska.

Later, Shruti shared another post on X where she said:

"Hi! I am alright and posted this only after I was out of USA. They let me and my friend go after 8 hours of nonsense and not finding anything. they still kept the whole luggage bag and gave a frivolous duffle to keep luggage. Anyway - the point is - out of India Indians are pretty powerless. Especially when you aren’t even allowed to make a phone call to anyone in India."

She explained that she waited to post her story until she had left the US. She also mentioned that although they were released after 8 hours, her original luggage was not returned, and she was given a poor-quality duffle bag instead.
