New Delhi: In an act of solidarity and to quell any rivalry following the panchayat elections, residents of Chidi village gave an SUV and Rs 2 crore to the candidate who came in second in the sarpanch poll on November 12.

Dharmpal Dalal alias Kala of Chidi village lost the sarpanch elections to Naveen Dalal of his village by a margin of 66 votes in a hotly contested panchayat election. Because of the significant stake held by the panchayat, the district administration designated Chidi village as sensitive.

Despite losing the panchayat election, Dharmpal Dalal was moved by the support of his fellow villagers, according to a TOI article. Despite losing heart and spirit following the sarpanch election, he stated that his fellow villagers still supported him by giving him Rs 2 crore and 11 lakh today in addition to an SUV.

“I had been elected chairman of block Samiti in 2000 and had been actively contributing to my area’s welfare activities. Every year, I felicitate the toppers of my village government school, any bright children who win any medal in games and also get involved in religious activities related to my village,” Dharampal said after getting a generous gift from the villagers, “I will contribute to the village welfare activities like before after today’s gesture”.

According to Bhale Ram, a khap leader, because Dharmpal Dalal enjoys high social status, the gesture was done by village residents to prevent the spread of resentment after the election.
