New Delhi: Union Minister Giriraj Singh has projected a sweeping victory for the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) in the 2025 Bihar Assembly elections, as early trends show the ruling alliance leading in a large number of constituencies.
Speaking to ANI, Singh said, “I have been confident from the beginning that we will secure a landslide victory in Bihar. The people of Bihar have always trusted this government and voted for peace, justice, and development.”
Meanwhile, Congress MP Manickam Tagore accused authorities of deleting voters who support the opposition. He said democracy cannot survive if elections are conducted on an uneven playing field. “When you delete 65 lakh voters mostly from the opposition what do you expect on result day? Democracy cannot function if the field is tilted before the match even begins,” Tagore wrote on X.
According to the Election Commission’s early figures, the NDA has crossed the majority mark of 122 seats. Out of 229 seats with available leads, the NDA is leading in 167 constituencies. This includes:
- BJP leading in 71 seats
- JD(U) ahead in 72 seats
- LJP(RV) leading in 18 seats
The BJP and JD(U) also showed strong conversion rates of 67% and 64%, respectively.
On the other hand, the Opposition’s Mahagathbandhan is trailing with leads in only 60 seats. RJD is leading in 43 seats, while Congress and CPI(ML) Liberation are ahead in 8 and 6 seats respectively. AIMIM is leading in two seats.
Prominent leaders also showed strong performances. Deputy Chief Ministers Vijay Kumar Sinha and Samrat Choudhary were leading in Lakhisarai and Tarapur. BJP’s Mangal Pandey was ahead in Siwan, and RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav was leading from Raghopur.
The counting of votes for all 243 assembly seats began at 8 am under strict security. Postal ballots were counted first, followed by EVM votes. Over 18,000 counting agents and 4,372 tables have been deployed across the state.
The Election Commission confirmed that 2,616 candidates and 12 recognised political parties participated in the two-phase elections held on November 6 and 11. No requests for repolling were received from any constituency.
The main contest is between CM Nitish Kumar-led NDA and the RJD-Congress-led Mahagathbandhan. In the 2020 elections, the NDA won 125 seats and Nitish Kumar returned as Chief Minister.
However, political alliances shifted significantly after that. Nitish Kumar left the NDA in August 2022 to join the Mahagathbandhan and became a key figure in the INDIA bloc. But in January 2024, just before the Lok Sabha polls, he returned to the NDA.
Over recent elections, the BJP strengthened its position, while RJD performed consistently. JD(U) and Congress, however, witnessed a decline in their seat counts between 2015 and 2020.
