In an unexpected accident in Patna’s Danapur, five people lost their lives as the roof of their house gave way overnight. As per media reports, a family of five lost their lives after being trapped under the debris. The house, whose roof collapsed unexpectedly, was constructed under the Indira Awas Yojana. The sound of the collapsing house attracted a crowd of residents from around the neighbourhood. A rescue operation that was initiated after the incident soon pulled the family out of the debris and rubble that took their lives.
The roof collapse led to the death of three children
Those who died included 32-year-old Babul Khan and 30-year-old Roshan Khatun. The family also included their 10-year-old son Mohammed Chand, 12-year-old daughter Ruksaar, and 2-year-old youngest daughter Chandni. The family had gone to sleep right after having their dinner. Locals in the area heard a massive clang when the roof collapsed, and the residents rushed to save the family.
Rescue Operation
Right after the incident, the Akeelpur police reached the locality. The police soon launched a rescue operation with the support of local residents. The family was taken to a nearby hospital, where they were declared dead on arrival.
Due to heavy rain in the area, the roof had lost its structural integrity, and the foundation and supporting walls were also weak. The local police in-charge stated that the remains of the family were sent for post-mortem and that the incident occurred because the roof had weakened after years of exposure to rain and water retention.
