Patna Metro: Five stations set to open after December 20 as project nears completion -underground sections underway

The Patna Metro Rail Project, when fully complete, will span approximately 31 km with 24 stations and is expected to transform urban mobility in Bihar’s capital.

Patna: The priority corridor of the Patna Metro Rail Project has now entered its final stage. Three stations on this route are already operational-Bhoothnath, Zero Mile, and Patliputra ISBT. The civil works on the remaining sections are progressing rapidly.

As per a report by TOI, senior officials from PMRCL and the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation Limited, which is executing the project, presented a detailed update on physical and financial progress, civil works, systems integration, and key milestones. He added that the remaining two stations—Malahi Pakri and Khemnichak—on the 6.5 km elevated section of Corridor 2 be completed quickly, as their readiness is critical for launching metro rail operations on the entire stretch that will be named the Blue Line.

The officials from the project detailed that the priority remains to offer the corridor without further delay. Preparatory work for the two main corridors—Corridor 1 (Danapur to Khemnichak) and Corridor 2 (Patna Junction to ISBT)—is also progressing simultaneously. Tunnelling and viaduct construction on these longer stretches are gathering pace.

The Patna Metro Rail Project, when fully complete, will span approximately 31 km with 24 stations and is expected to transform urban mobility in Bihar’s capital. Corridor 1 will be 17.9 km long, including a 7.3 km elevated stretch (Danapur, Sagunamore, RPS More, Patliputra, Meethapur, Ram Krishna Nagar, Jaganpura, and Khemnichak). Beyond that, a stretch of 10.5 km will operate underground, with metro lines passing through stations like Rukkanpura, Raja Bazaar, Patna Zoo, Vikas Bhawan, Vidyut Bhawan, and Patna Junction.

Apart from the priority corridor, Corridor 2 will have a 7.9 km underground network with stations from Patna Junction to Rajendra Nagar via Akashvani, Gandhi Maidan, PMCH, Patna University, and Moin-ul-Haq Stadium. The entire stretch is around 14.5 km.
