Patna: The Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) on Friday broke its silence and responded to its defeat in the Bihar Assembly elections, posting a message on X. The party framed the loss as part of a long political journey.
“Public service is an unceasing process, an endless journey. Ups and downs are inevitable in it. No sorrow in defeat, no arrogance in victory. The Rashtriya Janata Dal is the party of the poor. It will continue to raise its voice among the poor,” the RJD said.

In the Bihar election 2025, the party’s seats fell from 75 in the previous Assembly to just 25 this time. Its ally, the Congress, also suffered major losses, winning only six out of the 61 seats it contested, down from 19.
The National Democratic Alliance (NDA) secured a decisive victory in the 243-member Bihar Assembly election. The BJP increased its tally from 74 to 89 seats, while Nitish Kumar’s JD(U) rose from 43 to 85 seats. Together, the NDA captured nearly 85% of the seats they contested, establishing a strong majority.
Tejashwi Yadav, the Mahagathbandhan’s chief ministerial candidate, retained his stronghold in Raghopur, defeating the BJP’s Satish Kumar by 14,532 votes. The RJD’s vote share increased to 22.76%, slightly ahead of the BJP at 20.90% and JD(U) at 18.92%.
Reacting to the results, Rahul Gandhi acknowledged the defeat. “We could not achieve victory in such an election that was not fair from the very beginning. I express my gratitude to the millions of voters in Bihar who expressed their trust in the Mahagathbandhan,” he said in a post on X.
Congress leadership, including President Mallikarjun Kharge, Rahul Gandhi, Jairam Ramesh, Ajay Maken, and AICC Bihar in-charge Krishna Allavaru, held a meeting to discuss the party’s poor performance, which is the second-worst in Bihar after 2010 when Congress won only four seats.
