On Friday, Rahul Gandhi took a dig at BJP and claimed that during a security breach in Lok Sabha, BJP MPs swiftly fled the scene when a few youngsters released smoke. Speaking at the INDIA opposition bloc’s protest in Delhi, he humorously remarked, “All the BJP MPs ran away. Unki hawaa nikal gayi (They were scared stiff).”
He also pointed out that the Parliament security breach on December 13 raised questions not only about the security lapse but also about the motivations of the intruders. He elaborated, stating, “In this incident, there is the question of a security breach, but there is another question of why they protested this way. The answer is unemployment in the country.”
Rahul Gandhi further discussed the chaos in Parliament following the security breach, including protests, disruptions by Opposition lawmakers, mass suspensions, and the controversy surrounding Trinamool Congress MP Kalyan Banerjee’s mimicry of Rajya Sabha Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar, which Gandhi captured on video.
He criticized the media, stating, “The media did not talk about unemployment in the country. But it talked about Rahul Gandhi recording a video where suspended MPs were sitting outside the Parliament,” highlighting what he perceived as a misplaced focus in media coverage.
Leaders from the INDIA bloc are currently participating in a protest named ‘Save Democracy’ at Jantar Mantar. Key figures from the Opposition, including Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge, NCP supremo Sharad Pawar, and Sitaram Yechury of CPI(M), have come together to voice their dissatisfaction over the suspension of 146 Opposition MPs during the Winter Session of Parliament. The protest aims to address concerns about the state of democracy and the actions taken against Opposition members.
