Kolkata: Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader Abhishek Banerjee Thursday took a jibe at the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and actor-turned-politician Mithun Chakraborty.
Said, the TMC leader: “I am saying this in a hypothetical way that if Partha Chatterjee goes to BJP after two months then he will become a saint.”
He asserted that sacked party leader Partha Chatterjee was from TMC which is why, “all of these things are happening.”
The TMC leader also mentioned BJP leader Mithun Chakraborty saying that the latter does not even know the number of Assembly seats and district are there in the state.
He said, “Mithun Chakraborty doesn’t even know how many Assembly seats and districts are there in Bengal. He just wants to brag about how big a leader he has become, if he wants to make a mockery of himself, then, so be it.”
The TMC leader also mentioned that Partha Chatterjee who was sacked as a minister and as General Secretary on Thursday, can rejoin the party only if he proves himself as not guilty.
Zero tolerance for corruption
Banerjee further said there should be zero tolerance for corruption and the investigative agencies should complete their probe in the matter.
The former TMC leader was accused for being involved in a matter related to the West Bengal School Staff Recruitment staff.
Following the lead, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) conducted several raids related to Partha Chatterjee including his close aide Arpita Mukherjee.
The probe agency recovered a huge sum of money in cash from Aripta’s multiple residences. TMC supremo and West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee dismissed Mukherjee’s connection with the party.
Today, Abhishek Banerjee also sidelined the party with Mukherjee and said, “The one (Arpita Mukherjee) from whose house sums of money were recovered isn’t from TMC. We want stringent action against those who are linked to this matter.”
