A long-pending discussion on air pollution is expected to be taken up during the Parliament’s winter session on Thursday, with Union Environment Minister Bhupender Yadav, who is slated to address the issue.
Leader of the Opposition in Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, on December 12 called the plummeting air quality a “national health emergency” affecting millions. The leader urged the House for a bipartisan approach, emphasising that air pollution should not be treated as an ideological issue.
Debate on GRAMIN Bill (VB-G RAM G)
The Lok Sabha, in the wee hours of Wednesday, completed the discussion on the new rural jobs bill that seeks to replace the 20-year-old MGNREGA Act.
The discussion on the Viksit Bharat Guarantee for Rozgar and Ajeevika Mission (GRAMIN) Bill, 2025, concluded past midnight on Wednesday and saw the participation of 98 members. The Lok Sabha was adjourned at 1:35 AM.After an extensive discussion and debate on Thursday the bill has been passed in Lok Sabha.
The Lok Sabha is scheduled to take up a discussion on air pollution in the Delhi capital region as well. Beyond Lop Priyanka Gandhi, DMK member K. Kanimozhi and BJP member Bansuri Swaraj have also given notices for raising the discussion.
