The Mastermind, Lalit Mohan Jha (32), implicated in the recent Parliament security breach, allegedly took drastic measures to erase evidence by destroying mobile phones and other technical devices on Thursday morning, shortly before his capture.
While four others involved in the breach, identified as Manoranjan D, Sagar Sharma, Neelam Verma, and Amol Shinde, were apprehended after releasing smoke cans within and outside the Parliament premises, Jha, who had streamed the event, managed to escape, taking their ID cards and phones. Investigations indicated his connection with an associate named Mahesh, who was intended to join the group but couldn’t make it due to personal reasons, as his mother prevented his participation. Mahesh and his cousin Kailash assisted Jha, providing him shelter and aiding in the destruction of the phones at a dhaba in Kuchaman city.
Following this, Jha and Mahesh headed towards Jaipur, planning to surrender in Delhi. As the police tracked Kailash’s phone, they detained him, revealing the route Jha and Mahesh were taking. Subsequently, the police made adequate security arrangements near the Parliament and traced the duo’s location near Dhaula Kuan, finally apprehending them when they reached Kartavya Path police station to turn themselves in.
The Counter-Intelligence Unit of the Special Cell has taken charge of Jha and Mahesh’s case, focusing on investigating their actions. Police are contemplating charging Mahesh and Kailash for shielding the accused and eliminating evidence, seeking legal counsel on the matter.
Jha’s social media revealed an account with references to historical figures like Bhagat Singh, Chandrasekhar Azad, and others. Further investigation disclosed Jha’s role in housing the other four individuals at his friend Vicky’s residence in Gurgaon upon their arrival in the city three days prior to the breach.
