Five Congress Members of Parliament (MPs) have been barred from Lok Sabha due to their “unruly Conduct” during the tumultuous proceedings following Wednesday’s significant security breach. The suspended MPs are Dean Kuriakose, Hibi Eden, Jothimani, Ramya Haridas, and TN Prathapan Benny Behanan, VK Sreekandan, Mohammad Jawed, PR Natarajan, Kanimozhi Karunanidhi, K Subrahmanyam, SR Parthiban, S Venkatesan and Manickam Tagore.

Five Congress MPs are now suspended, joining the list of disciplined opposition members. This follows the recent suspension of Trinamool Congress MP Derek O’Brien from the Rajya Sabha for the rest of the session.

O’Brien had called for a discussion on the security breach that occurred the previous day. During this incident, two individuals jumped into the Lok Sabha chamber from the visitors’ gallery, leading to chaos and the release of yellow smoke from canisters.

The incident has intensified scrutiny of parliamentary security measures, prompting opposition members to demand the resignation of Union Home Minister Amit Shah.

In the midst of the chaos, the Lok Sabha was adjourned until 3 pm due to the ongoing protest by opposition MPs regarding the security breach. Parliamentary Affairs Minister Pralhad Joshi addressed the House before the adjournment, emphasizing the importance of a non-political approach to enhancing security protocols.

“The Lok Sabha Speaker held a meeting with all the floor leaders and listened to their solutions for the further strengthening of the security in the parliament. Some of the suggestions given have already been implemented. No politics should be done on this issue,” said Joshi.

Immediately after the security breach, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla initiated a thorough investigation into the incident. Responding to a request from the Lok Sabha Secretariat, the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) also directed an inquiry into the Parliament security breach.
