Parliament Monsoon Session LIVE Updates: Lok Sabha Proceedings Adjourned Until July 28

Parliament Monsoon Session LIVE Updates: The Monsoon Session of Parliament entered its fifth day on Friday, with the Opposition stepping up protests over the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls being carried out in Bihar.

In a symbolic act of dissent, INDIA bloc MPs, led by Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, Lok Sabha LoP Rahul Gandhi, and MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, tore copies of the SIR and threw them into a dustbin outside Parliament, while raising slogans demanding a discussion on the issue.

The opposition parties have repeatedly called for a discussion in the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha on the SIR, moving adjournment motions every day since the start of the Monsoon Session.

The opposition parties have also been staging protests outside the Parliament since the beginning of the session, alleging that the revision exercise is being used for voter manipulation and the deletion of names ahead of the upcoming assembly elections.

Meanwhile, in Bihar, Rashtriya Janata Dal leader Tejashwi Yadav and party MP Manoj Jha have said there “might be” a discussion on the possibility of a poll boycott. Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, along with Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav, DMK MP Kanimozhi, and Congress leaders Manickam Tagore and K. C. Venugopal, have participated in the protest over the past few days.

Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister, Kiren Rijiju says, "...Before the monsoon session began, several opposition parties, including the Congress, had requested that Operation Sindoor and the Pahalgam terror attack should be discussed in Parliament. The government said we are ready to discuss it... The opposition has been creating a ruckus in Parliament from day one and protesting inside and outside Parliament and not allowing the House to function. In the first week of the monsoon session of Parliament, we have been able to pass only one bill... I urge all opposition parties not to disrupt the proceedings of Parliament."

On Monday, 28th July, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh will initiate the discussion on Operation Sindoor in the Lok Sabha. Other ministers participating in the discussion include Home Minister Amit Shah and Foreign Minister S Jaishankar. BJP MPs Anurag Thakur and Nishikant Dubey will also take part. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to intervene in the discussion. The discussion on Operation Sindoor will begin in the Rajya Sabha on Tuesday, 29th July with Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Foreign Minister S Jaishankar, and other ministers participating.
