A drone was sighted over Regal village in the Ghagwal area of Samba district in Jammu and Kashmir on Friday. It was reportedly coming from the Pakistani post near Chak Bhura towards BOP Regal. Within 2-3 minutes, it returned towards the Pakistani side. The drone was observed blinking red and blue lights.
Following the sighting, security forces launched search operation in the area to ensure that no payload, such as narcotics or weapons was air dropped, officials stated, as reported by PTI. The sighting was reported by a reliable local source who has previously provided credible information on border drone activity.
Meanwhile, according to the Border Security Force (BSF) annual data (November 1, 2024-October 31, 2025), it detected at least 1,816 drone sightings along the Indo-Pak border and 136 along the Indo-Bangladesh border. Notably, the 1,952 drone sightings across the eastern and western zones indicate the same drone being spotted at different border points.According to reports, Pakistan based drug and arms smugglers have been using drones to send drugs, arms and ammunition into India. A majority of these incidents were reported along the Indo-Pak border in Punjab. BSF’s Punjab division has shot down nearly 255 drones this year.
Indian Army, IAF to induct 16 laser based anti drone systems
Reportedly, in a move to strengthen India’s capabilities against drone strikes, Indian Army and the Indian Air Force are going to place orders for 16 indigenous drone detection and interdiction systems. The systems would be capable of hitting unmanned aerial systems at 2 kms with laser and disable them. The Defence Ministry is likely to clear the Defence Research and Development Organisation’s Integrated Drone Detection and Interdiction System (Mark 2), which has the capability of hitting enemy drones with laser beams at 2 kms. The 10 Kilowatt laser beam would double the distance at which they can engage drones with laser, as the first system was capable of targeting at around 1 kms only, defence officials told ANI.
