Pakistan Initiated Ceasefire Call, No Preconditions Attached; Indus Water Treaty To Remain In Abeyance: MEA Sources

Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri on Friday informed about the ceasefire between India and Pakistan. He said both sides would stop all firing and military action on land and in the air and sea with effect from 1700 hours Indian Standard Time.

Vikram Misri mentioned, “Pakistan’s Director General of Military Operations (DGMO) called Indian DGMO at 15:35 hours earlier this afternoon. It was agreed between them that both sides would stop all firing and military action on land and in the air and sea with effect from 1700 hours Indian Standard Time. Today, instructions have been given on both sides to give effect to this understanding. The Directors General of Military Operations will talk again on the 12th of May at 1200 hours.”

As per MEA Sources, “There is no pre- or post-condition of the ceasefire. The call was initiated from Pakistan. The Indus Water Treaty to remain in abeyance.”

Earlier on Saturday, U.S. President Donald Trump announced that India and Pakistan had agreed to implement a full and immediate ceasefire. This announcement followed India’s launch of ‘Operation Sindoor’ on May 7, carried out in retaliation for the terror attack in Pahalgam. As part of the operation, India struck nine terrorist camps located in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir.
