Several videos and pictures of the attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir have surfaced on social media. 26 people were killed and several others were injured in this horrific terror attack that took place on Tuesday, April 22. These videos capture the horrific glimpses of terror, in which screams, stampede and gunshots can be clearly heard. In view of the Pahalgam attack, Prime Minister Narendra Modi returned to Delhi on Wednesday, cutting short his Saudi Arabia visit. Upon his arrival, he held meeting with EAM S Jaishankar and NSA Ajit Doval at the Palam Airport. The Indian Army and Jammu and Kashmir Police have launched a search operation in the general area of Baisran, Pahalgam, Anantnag, to nab the attackers.
Victims Recount Horror
A video has gone viral, in which a tourist can be seen recording his video against the backdrop of the scenic valley, but suddenly sound of gunshots starts coming. As the firing begins, and the man understands the situation, he panics and starts running. In another video, the same person is seen saying “There has been a terrorist attack here.” This video has now gone viral on the internet and offers a glimpse into the deadly nature of the Pahalgam terror attack.
Several victims recounted the barbaric incident and shared bone chilling details. People across the country are in anguish and have condemned the terror attack. One of the victims from Pune stated that the attackers asked their relative to recite ‘Kalma’ (Islamic verse) and shot them when they weren’t able to do so. She told that terrorists opened fire at nearby tent and even made statements against PM Modi. Other victims ascertained that the terrorists asked their names first, identified if they were Hindus and shot them dead. They even pulled down trousers of some tourists. “The gunman said my husband was not a Muslim and then shot him” added a victim.
Kashmir Bandh On Wednesday
In response to the terror attack in Pahalgam, several political parties in J&K extended their support to the call for a Kashmir Bandh on Wednesday to show solidarity with the families of victims. Locals in Baramulla, Srinagar, Poonch and Kupwara took out a candlelight march. Bajrang Dal workers also held a protest against the terror attack in Jammu.
Amit Shah Holds Security Review Meeting
Meanwhile, Union Home Minister Amit Shah reached Srinagar and held security review meeting on Tuesday. “Anguished by the terror attack on tourists in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir. My thoughts are with the family members of the deceased. Those involved in this dastardly act of terror will not be spared, and we will come down heavily on the perpetrators with the harshest consequences. Briefed PM Shri @narendramodi Ji about the incident and held a meeting with the concerned officials via video conferencing,” the Home Minister said in a post on X.
