A defense expert says that India and Pakistan may witness escalation after the terror attack in Pahalgam.

Nuclear capabilities demand caution

While talking to the BBC, Indian historian Srinath Raghvan said India had taken strong action against Pakistan between 2016 and 2019 and would take similar action this time. He said the biggest problem with the two nations is that both are nuclear-capable, and this is a menace as well as an obstacle. He said it compels the two nations to exercise caution before taking any action.

India may choose military action

American expert Michael Kugelman said India may choose a military action, and it will send out a clear message to Pakistan and would also give the government an advantage in domestic politics. He said India may launch an airstrike like it did in 2019. However, it would be more challenging because the United States is unclear on the issue and may not offer possible help to India, he added. However, United States President Donald Trump assured India of full support.

Tension could escalate between India and Pakistan

Husain Haqqani, Former Pak envoy to the US, said tension could escalate between India and Pakistan. While talking to BBC, Haqqani said India has the edge when it strikes and Pakistan fails to respond to it. He said it would send out a message among Indian people that the government has taken action, but if Pakistan responds to the strike, then the situation will get worse.
