Pahalgam Attack: 48 Tourist Sites Closed Amid Security Concerns In Jammu & Kashmir

The move comes after the Pahalgam attack, which claimed 26 lives, most of them tourists and has led to increased security measures across Jammu and Kashmir.

As many as 48 tourist spots, including public parks, across Jammu and Kashmir have been temporarily closed for safety after a terror attack in Pahalgam that killed 26 people, most of them tourists.

According to unnamed officials quoted by news agency PTI, gates have been shut at 48 out of 87 public parks and gardens in the region. Authorities say the decision was made because of the rising security concerns.

No Official Government Order

Although there has been no official government order, many tourist places in Kashmir have been closed. Gates have been locked and entry has been blocked at several popular spots.

In South Kashmir, even the famous Mughal Gardens have been shut for the visitors.

Tourism is an important part of Kashmir’s economy, so the closure of these places is a big loss, both as a symbol and financially. However, officials say that the safety of both locals and visitors is their main concern.

Tension Rises Between India and Pakistan

Tensions between India and Pakistan, both nuclear-armed countries, have grown since the attack. On the night of April 28–29, the Pakistan Army continued firing without warning across the Line of Control (LoC), targeting areas in the Kupwara and Baramulla districts, as well as the Akhnoor sector. This marks the fifth straight day of such firing.

The Indian Army, however, said it responded to the attack in a careful and effective way.
