Lashed by heavy rains on Saturday, Delhi and the surrounding areas have been reeling under the rising pressures of waterlogging and extensive traffic jams. But these are not the only woes tormenting Delhi residents. A statement released by the Delhi Airport stated that several flights reported delays, adding to the issues.
Amid the waterlogging in areas such as Panchkuian Marg, Mathura Road, and Connaught Place, the flight delays have further compounded the problems residents of Delhi are currently facing.
Several Flights Delayed
As per data on FlightRadar24 at 9:15 a.m., around 141 departing flights from Indira Gandhi International Airport were delayed, and three were cancelled on Saturday morning. Among arriving flights, 24 faced delays, and one was cancelled.
IndiGo, Air India, and SpiceJet Issue Advisories
Amid the situation, IndiGo issued an advisory on X, warning passengers about the traffic congestion across the city:
“Due to today’s downpour, several roads across Delhi are currently blocked or experiencing slow movement. Please allow extra time, take an alternate route if possible, and check your flight status on our website or app before leaving for the airport. Our teams are working to keep things on track and support your journey. Thank you for your continued trust and patience.”
Beyond IndiGo, SpiceJet advised passengers about possible disruptions:
“Due to bad weather (heavy rain) in Patna (PAT), all departures/arrivals and their consequential flights may get affected. Passengers are requested to keep a check on their flight status via http://spicejet.com/#status.”
Air India also posted a travel advisory online, stating: “Rain may impact flight operations to and from Delhi today. Please check your flight status here http://airindia.com/in/en/manage/flight-status.html before heading to the airport, and allow extra time for your journey due to possible slow-moving traffic.”
