Telangana: Nine Dead As Heavy Rains Batter State, CM Holds Emergency Review

Telangana and Andhra Pradesh continue to face the devastating effects of heavy rainfall, leading to severe flooding, loss of life, and widespread disruptions. Over the past few days, relentless downpours have caused rivers to swell, submerging villages and cities like Hyderabad and Vijayawada.

Emergency Response and Rescue Operations

The chief ministers of both states, A Revanth Reddy of Telangana and N Chandrababu Naidu of Andhra Pradesh, have held emergency meetings to assess the situation and oversee rescue efforts. In Telangana’s Khammam district, 110 villages are under water, with 119 people stranded on hilltops and buildings, awaiting rescue. Union minister Bandi Sanjay Kumar has alerted Home Minister Amit Shah, and nine NDRF teams have been dispatched to assist with rescue operations.

Flooding in Andhra Pradesh

Vijayawada has been severely affected, with areas like Rama Krishna Puram facing significant flooding. The NDRF and local police are evacuating residents to rehabilitation centers. Floodwaters have also caused train cancellations and damaged infrastructure across both states.

10 Key Points on the Flood Situation

1.Schools Closed: The Telangana government has declared a holiday for all schools in Hyderabad on Monday, September 2, to ensure student safety.

2.IMD Red Warning: The IMD has issued red warnings for parts of Telangana, predicting extremely heavy rainfall in Adilabad, Mahabubnagar, and other districts.

3.110 Villages Submerged: Khammam is one of the worst-hit districts, with over 100 people stranded on rooftops and hilltops.

4.Infrastructure Damage: Floodwaters have washed away railway tracks and caused house collapses. A woman in Mogalrajapuram, Andhra Pradesh, died when a rock fell on her house due to the rains.

5.City Flooding: Hyderabad and Vijayawada have seen severe waterlogging, with homes and vehicles submerged.

6.Fatalities: In Telangana’s Mahabubabad, a woman died after her car was swept away, while her father remains missing.

7.Missing Family Members: Two family members in Khammam are feared to have been washed away after the collapse of their home.

8.Train Cancellations: Heavy rains led to the cancellation of 99 trains, with four partially cancelled and 54 diverted.

9.Stranded Trains: Flooding and track damage stranded five trains in the Kazipet to Vijayawada section, with authorities evacuating passengers.

10.More Rain Forecast: The IMD has predicted continued heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, and lightning over the next five days in parts of North Coastal Andhra Pradesh and Yanam.

Both states are bracing for further challenges as heavy rain continues to batter the region.
