Opposition unity Mission: Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar will meet Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge and former Congress MP Rahul Gandhi in Delhi today. Nitish Kumar had met Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal a day earlier. The Chief Minister of Bihar is trying to forge opposition unity to challenge the BJP in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.
Nitish Kumar met Kejriwal at his residence in Delhi, where it was learned that he tried to forge a working relationship between the Delhi chief minister and the Congress to unite the opposition ahead of next year’s general elections. The AAP and the Congress are arch-rivals in Delhi and Punjab and this was once again evident on Saturday when the Congress did not invite Kejriwal to Siddaramaiah’s swearing-in ceremony in Karnataka.
Siddaramaiah’s swearing-in ceremony
Interestingly, Siddaramaiah’s swearing-in ceremony was a show of strength for the opposition parties, where many leaders from the non-BJP camp, except Kejriwal and West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, were present.
Opposition meeting in Patna
The Bihar CM also discussed the dates for holding a major opposition meeting in Patna, as requested by Mamata Banerjee during the recent meeting of the two leaders in Kolkata.
Nitish may also discuss the dates of opposition meeting during the meeting with Mallikarjun Kharge and Rahul Gandhi, after which the date for holding the opposition meeting in Patna will be decided. According to sources, this meeting can be held in the first week of June.
Opposition unity Mission:
Nitish Kumar said, “I am working towards creating opposition unity. Arvind Kejriwal is doing good work, but the Center is not allowing him to work freely. It is important that maximum number of opposition parties come together to defeat the BJP.” Talking to the media after meeting Kejriwal in Delhi on Sunday.
There has been a delay in holding the opposition meeting in Patna due to the Congress being busy with the recently concluded Karnataka elections.
