Bengaluru: Congress is not interested in power or the post of Prime Minister instead the grand old party’s motive is to save constitution, democracy and the people of the country, said party president Mallikarjun Kharge, during the two day opposition meeting on Tuesday.
“I had already told in Chennai on Stalin’s birthday that Congress is not interested in power or the post of Prime Minister. Our intention in this meeting is not to gain power for ourselves. It is to protect our constitution, democracy, secularism and social justice,” Kharge said in meeting, ANI quoted sources as saying.

“The people of the country are suffering due to high inflation, unemployment. apart from this, the rights of the underprivileged section of the society including rights of the poor, Dalits, tribals and minorities are being crushed in the tenure of the NDA led BJP government,” Kharge asserted, while addressing the opposition meeting.
“We are aware that at the state level, there are differences between some of us. These differences are not ideological,” he said.
“The BJP did not get 303 seats by itself. It used the votes of its allies and came to power and then discarded them. Today, the BJP president and their leaders are running from state to state to patch up with their old allies,” Kharge stated.
“CBI, ED, Income Tax are routinely used. False criminal cases are filed against our leaders so that they get caught in the legal process. Constitutional authorities are used to suspend our MPs. MLAs are being blackmailed or bribed to move to BJP and topple governments,” Congress president added.
In preparation for the upcoming 2024 Lok Sabha elections, the Congress party has successfully garnered support from 26 other political parties, uniting them for the second opposition unity meeting against the BJP. The initial opposition unity meeting took place in Patna last month.
