The scene in question showed film’s female lead handing over a copy of ‘Gita’ to Cillian Murphy and asking him to read a line from the holy book. Mruphy, then, recited “Now I am become Death, the destroyer of worlds,” as the couple resumed intercourse.

The particular scene led to anger among Hindutava groups who demanded that the “objectionable scene” should be dropped from the film to make it more inclusive to ‘Hindus.’

Larger anti-Hindu conspiracy: India’s Information Commissioner

India’s Information Commissioner, Uday Mahurkar termed it a “disturbing attack on Hinduism,” accusing that the move is a “part of a larger conspiracy by anti-Hindu forces.”

“We believe that if you remove this scene and do the needful to win hearts of Hindus, it will go a long way to establish your credentials as a sensitized human being and gift you friendship of billions of nice people,” wrote Mahurkar in a long tweet on his official handle.

“But this is a direct assault on religious beliefs of a billion tolerant Hindus, rather it amounts to waging a war on the Hindu community and almost appears to be part of a larger conspiracy by anti-Hindu forces,” he added.

Twitter blows up with #BoycottOppenheimer

The agression also led to an online protest under the #BoycottOppenheimer on social media platform Twitter. Many have condemned the scene calling it “disgusting,” “anti-Hindu” and “disgrace to Hinduism.”
