Operation Sindoor Blackout: Electricity Back In Srinagar By 1 AM; Situation Remains Tense

The situation escalated overnight, with one civilian killed and eight others injured due to ceasefire violations by Pakistan along the Line of Control (LoC) in Uri.

The Kashmir Valley has experienced a brief respite following the first blackout, with electricity restored in Srinagar and other districts around 1:00 AM. However, the atmosphere remains tense as reports of panic emerge from Uri and Karnah, where thousands of residents have fled their homes in search of safety.

The situation escalated overnight, with one civilian killed and eight others injured due to ceasefire violations by Pakistan along the Line of Control (LoC) in Uri. Additionally, a major infiltration attempt was thwarted by the Border Security Force (BSF) at the International Border in Samba, resulting in the deaths of at least seven infiltrators, as told by sources.

Heavy Pakistani shelling continued for several hours on the LoC, particularly affecting the Kupwara and Baramulla districts. Preliminary reports indicate that one woman lost her life, and eight civilians sustained injuries from Pakistani shelling in Uri. Residents reported hearing multiple explosions in Kupwara around 5 AM, further heightening fears in the region.

In response to the escalating violence from Pakistan, all educational institutions in Jammu and Kashmir have been closed, and university examinations have been suspended. The government announced that schools, colleges, and universities will remain shut on May 9 and 10 as a precautionary measure.

Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has travelled to Jammu to assess the situation following a failed drone attack by Pakistan aimed at Jammu city and other areas. Authorities are actively monitoring social media and traditional news outlets, taking legal action against those spreading misinformation or violating government advisories.

Despite the turmoil, high-speed 5G internet services and other telecommunications remain uninterrupted in the Jammu and Kashmir. The Indian Army issued a statement confirming that multiple attacks were launched by Pakistani Armed Forces using drones and munitions during the night of May 8-9. They assured that these drone attacks were effectively repulsed and that a strong response was given to the ceasefire violations.

The Indian Army reiterated its commitment to safeguarding the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the nation, vowing to respond decisively to any hostile actions.
