New Delhi: IAS officer Shah Faesal on Tuesday took a dig at Pakistan after Rishi Sunak was appointed as Britain’s first Indian-origin prime minister. He cited his own journey as a civil service officer in India and said that nowhere else in the world do Muslims get such freedom.
Shah Faesal rolled out a series of tweets. he wrote, “It’s possible only in India that a Muslim youngster from Kashmir can go on to top the Indian Civil Service exam, rise to top echelons of the government, then fall apart with the government and still be rescued and taken back by the same government.”
“Rishi Saunak’s appointment might be a surprise for our neighbors where the Constitution bars non-Muslims from top posts in the Government, but Indian democracy has never discriminated ethnic and religious minorities from the rest,” he wrote further.
He further wrote, “As equal citizens, Indian Muslims enjoy freedoms that are unthinkable in any other so called Islamic country. ”

Faesal resigned from IAS services to join active politics
The 2009 Kashmiri IAS topper Shah Faesal had resigned from the service in January 2019 and announced his decision to join active politics. He said that he resigned in protest against the brutal killings, marginalization of Muslims and sabotage of public institutions in Kashmir.
Got arrested under Public Safety Act
Faesal, who formed the Jammu and Kashmir People’s Movement (JKPM) party after resigning as a public servant, was earlier detained under the stringent Public Safety Act soon after the abrogation of Jammu and Kashmir’s special status. Earlier, the doctor-turned-bureaucrat had faced criticism for calling the country ‘rapistan’, referring to the rising incidents of rape.
