Uttar Pradesh: A cross-border wedding ceremony unfolded in a district of Uttar Pradesh when the son of a BJP leader married a Pakistani girl through an online “nikah.” The groom, Mohammad Abbas Haider, is the elder son of BJP corporator Tahseen Shahid, who organized the marriage with Andleep Zahra, a resident of Lahore.
Challenges Due to Political Tensions
Despite efforts to secure a visa for the groom, the ongoing political tensions between India and Pakistan hindered the process. The situation became even more pressing when the bride’s mother, Rana Yasmin Zaidi, fell ill and was admitted to the ICU in Pakistan. Faced with these circumstances, Shahid made the decision to conduct the wedding online.
The Online Nikah Ceremony
On Friday night, Shahid gathered the wedding party at an imambara, where they participated in the online “nikah.” Zahra’s family joined the ceremony from Lahore, allowing both families to be part of this significant moment despite the distance.

Religious Significance of Online Nikah
Shia religious leader Maulana Mahfoozul Hasan Khan emphasized the importance of consent in Islamic marriages, noting that the bride must communicate her agreement to the maulana. He explained that an online “nikah” is feasible when maulanas from both sides can jointly conduct the ceremony.
Hope for a Smooth Visa Process
Haider expressed hope that his new wife would obtain her Indian visa without complications following the ceremony. The wedding was attended by BJP MLC Brijesh Singh Prishu and other guests, who congratulated the groom’s family on this unique celebration of love that transcended borders.
