Diamond Harbour MP Abhishek Banerjee’s brainchild, Sebaashray 2, has crossed a significant milestone by reaching over one lakh people in less than three weeks. With each passing day, the initiative is setting new benchmarks in public healthcare delivery, ensuring timely medical intervention for those who need it most. From routine cataract surgeries to complex neuro and super-speciality treatments, Sebaashray 2 has proven that large-scale outreach and humane care can move hand-in hand.

Several critical interventions from the past three weeks, underline the impact of this effort.

– Several patients suffering from impaired vision underwent treatment, including cataract surgeries, and returned home with restored eyesight, reclaiming their independence and dignity.

– Two elderly patients from the same area were referred to the Jagannath Gupta Institute of Medical Sciences, one a 71-year-old battling a severe brain haemorrhage after days of excruciating pain, the other a 79-year-old brought in unconscious with seizures, later diagnosed with a serious brain tumour.

– In addition, three patients received life-saving super-speciality care at Apollo Hospital: Prince Dutta was treated by plastic and general surgery teams, Mohammad Sadab of Maheshtala received oral cancer treatment under ENT and head–neck specialists, and Anurag Pal underwent specialised consultation in paediatric orthopaedics.

More than a healthcare programme, Sebaashray 2, under the guidance of AITC NGS Abhishek Banerjee, is a powerful reminder that governance can be compassionate, humane, and deeply people-centric.

It reflects a model where compassion is organised, disciplined, and relentless in its reach.
