Lalu Yadav, who was the Railway Minister between 2004 and 2009, said, “ I have travelled in the Coromandel Express. The way they showed carelessness and lack of vigilance resulted in a large number of casualties. There should be a high-level inquiry and action should be taken. Action should be taken against those responsible for this… It was gross negligence, they have ruined the railways.”

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, who visited the accident site today, also questioned the ignorance.

Taking to the media at Balasor, she said, “Had the anti-collision device been installed in the train, the accident would have not happened.
