Odisha Engineer Throws Cash Bundles From Window During Vigilance Raid; Rs 2.1 Crore Recovered

The Odisha Vigilance Department said that after witnessing the officials, Sarangi threw bundles of Rs 500 notes from the window of his flat in Bhubaneswar.

The Odisha Vigilance Department raided Odisha Rural Works Division Chief Engineer and recovered a whopping cash of Rs 2.1 crore. The engineer allegedly threw Rs 500 cash bundles from the window after the raids. The vigilance department raided seven locations in the state.

Total amount recovered is about Rs 2.1 crore

The engineer has been identified as Baikuntha Nath Sarangi. The vigilance department recovered nearly Rs 1 crore from his flat in Bhubaneswar, while about Rs 1.1 crore has been recovered from his residence in Angul. The total amount recovered is about Rs 2.1 crore; counting is still underway

The Odisha Vigilance Department said that after witnessing the officials, Sarangi threw bundles of Rs 500 notes from the window of his flat in Bhubaneswar. The search team of the Vigilance Department recovered it in the presence of witnesses. 

The department carried out searches after allegations levelled against the engineer that he had amassed disproportionate assets to his known sources of income. The raids were conducted by a team of 26 police officers, including 8 DSPs, 12 Inspectors and 6 ASIs and other staff members.

A video shows the team of officials using the cash counting machines to tally the notes of Rs 500, Rs 200, Rs100 and Rs 50.
