Cuttack: In the midst of national outrage over the brutal rape and murder of a woman doctor in Kolkata, another disturbing incident has surfaced in Odisha’s Cuttack. Two women patients at SCB Medical College and Hospital have accused a male doctor of sexually assaulting them during a medical examination.
Allegations and Immediate Response
The incident reportedly occurred when the mother and aunt of a second-year MBBS student visited the cardiology department for a routine check-up. The women, who were advised to undergo an echocardiogram, were asked to return for a follow-up visit. During this revisit, they alleged that a cardiology MD student inappropriately touched them under the guise of conducting an ECG.
Upon hearing of the incident, the MBBS student informed her seniors, leading to the accused doctor being confronted and allegedly beaten by fellow students. The doctor sustained serious injuries and is currently receiving treatment in the ICU at the same hospital.

Legal Proceedings and Investigation
Initially hesitant, the two women eventually filed an FIR after senior doctors intervened and encouraged them to pursue legal action. The police have recorded their statements under sections 161 and 164 of the CrPC.
Cuttack’s Additional DCP Anil Mishra confirmed the incident occurred on August 11 and emphasized that the investigation is ongoing. CCTV footage from the hospital is being reviewed as part of the inquiry. Mishra also indicated that the police are prepared to file an FIR if the assaulted doctor chooses to press charges against those who allegedly attacked him.
