Vote counting for the Assembly elections in Odisha and Andhra Pradesh, alongside the Lok Sabha Elections 2024, is underway today (June 4). Odisha’s Assembly elections were conducted in four phases: May 13 (28 constituencies), May 20 (35 constituencies), May 25 (42 constituencies), and June 1 (42 constituencies). Patnaik has served as the Chief Minister of Odisha since 2000 and is poised to become the longest-serving Chief Minister in India if he secures another term. In the 2019 Odisha Assembly Elections, the BJD won 113 seats, securing the state once more. The BJP won 23 seats, while the Congress was reduced to just 9 seats. The BJD initially won the 2000 and 2004 Odisha Assembly polls in alliance with the BJP, but this alliance dissolved just before the 2019 Lok Sabha Elections. Under Patnaik’s leadership, the BJD achieved significant victories in the 2009, 2014, and 2019 Assembly elections.
