Tensions between India and Pakistan continue to escalate, and the world is now worried of the consequences, if the conflict between these two nuclear powered states could lead to a full-fledged war.
JD Vance, Vice President of the United States, has urged India and Pakistan to de-escalate the ongoing conflict. Vance clarified that the US has nothing to do with the conflict between the two countries, and it would not intervene directly.
In an interview to Fox News, the US VP said, “What we can do is try to encourage these folks to deescalate a little bit, but we’re not going to get involved in the middle of a war that’s fundamentally none of our business and has nothing to do with America’s ability to control it. You know, America can’t tell the Indians to lay down their arms. We can’t tell the Pakistanis to lay down their arms. And so, we’re going to continue to pursue this thing through diplomatic channels.”
Vance hoped that this conflict may not turn into a broader regional war or, even worse, a nuclear conflict. He said, “Our hope and our expectation is that this is not going to spiral into a broader regional war or, God forbid, a nuclear conflict. We are worried about these things. The job of the cooler heads in India and Pakistan is to make sure that this doesn’t become a nuclear war and if it happens, it will be disastrous, but right now we don’t think it is going to happen.”
Is A Nuclear War Between India And Pakistan Imminent?
It would be very early to say that the current escalation could anyhow lead to a full-fledged war or even worse, a nuclear conflict.
In a recent conversation with News24, renowned Defence and Foreign Relation expert, Colonel (Retd.) Sanjeet Sirohi talked on the possibility of a nuclear conflict between India and Pakistan. “No, there is no possibility of a nuclear conflict. India may escalate matters, but to a certain point, halting it as soon as it nears breaching the nuclear threshold,” Sirohi said, adding, “Pakistan is in no position to start a nuclear war. No one, even China, will allow Pakistan to do so. Therefore, there is absolutely no possibility of nuclear war between the two nations.”
