New Delhi: The largest corridor under Delhi Metro Phase 5A aims to provide major relief to thousands of daily commuters. In particular, it will benefit people travelling to Kartavya Bhavan, India Gate, and Bharat Mandapam.
The 9.9-kilometre-long corridor will run from Ramakrishna Ashram Marg to Indraprastha. Moreover, it will serve government employees, office-goers, and tourists visiting central Delhi.
Delhi Metro Phase 5A: Planned Routes and Stations
The new corridor will start from Ramakrishna Ashram Marg (RK Ashram Marg) station on the Delhi Metro’s Blue Line, near Connaught Place.
It will pass through Shivaji Stadium, Central Secretariat, Kartavya Bhavan, India Gate, and Bharat Mandapam, covering key government and historic areas of central Delhi.
The corridor will end at Indraprastha Station, where it will reconnect with the Blue Line, allowing smooth interchange for passengers.
Designed as a loop-like corridor, it will strengthen the Blue Line and provide direct metro connectivity to major government offices and popular tourist destinations.
Delhi Metro Phase 5A: Three Key Corridors Planned
Ramakrishna Ashram Marg to Indraprastha: The 9.9 km corridor will cost 9570 crores. This corridor will begin at the RK Ashram Marg station on the Blue Line and connect to the Blue Line at Indraprastha, passing through Shivaji Station, Central Secretariat, Kartavya Bhavan, India Gate, and Bharat Mandapam.
This will directly benefit approximately 60,000 employees working at Kartavya Bhavan and the surrounding government offices, and approximately 200,000 daily visitors.
Aerocity to Airport Terminal-1: This 2.3 km will cost Rs 1,419.6 crore. This short but important corridor will directly connect Aerocity to Terminal-1 at IGI Airport. Terminal 1 has been expanded and will soon handle more flights.
Passengers will now be able to easily access Terminal-1 by interchanging at Aerocity.
Tughlakabad to Kalindi Kunj: This 3.9 km will cost Rs 1,024.8 crore. This corridor will connect the Magenta Line and Violet Line. Passengers from Noida, Faridabad, and southern Delhi will benefit the most.
Now, people traveling to Gurugram will also have easy connectivity.
This extension will relieve traffic congestion in Delhi-NCR and boost public transportation. Work is expected to begin soon.
