New Delhi: Trinamool Congress (TMC) MP Saugata Roy Monday stated that the party’s decision to opt Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee for Panchayat Poll’s campaign has nothing to do with the Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) strength in the state.
“Mamata Banerjee is a committed party person. The party felt that Mamata Banerjee should address some meetings of the panchayat elections, so she started campaigning for the party. It is nothing to do with BJP’s strength in West Bengal,” said the TMC leader.
The TMC’s decision of sending party supremo for the Panchayat Polls campaigning is widely being questioned as the West Bengal Chief Minister has not carried rallies for such local elections for over a decade.
BJP’s state president Sukanta Majumdar pointed fingers at Mamata Banerjee and said that the ruling party in Bengal is scared by the saffron party’s strength, so they fielded the CM for campaigning.
“After 12 years, Mamata Banerjee is coming out for a panchayat election campaign, for BJP, this is a great achievement. After 12 years, Mamata is feeling that her opposition has grown really big and strong that she herself will have to campaign…,” said the BJP leader.

Majumdar highlihted that Banerjee will hold public rallies in South Bengal, which is allegedly an area angried upon the current dispensation due to three major events in North Dinajpur.
Rajbanshi Community dissatisfied with Mamata
The three incidents include the alleged rape and murder of a 17-year-old girl, an incident where a father had to carry dead body of his infant in a bag to travel home through a bus due to ambulance’s arrogance and the third one is the death of Mrityunjoy Barman in reported police firing.
As per the experts, the saffron party has a stronghold in the southern part of the state that could be positive for the latter to expand its support.
