Lucknow: Northern Railways on Thursday reduced the platform ticket rates, which had been raised to 50 due to increasing rush on Chhath Puja and Diwali.
The platform tickets are now being sold at the earlier price of 10.
At Lucknow, Varanasi, Barabanki, Akbarpur, Shahganj, Jaunpur, Sultanpur Junction, Rae Bareli, Janghai, Bhadohi, Pratapgarh, and Unnao Junction, tickets are now less expensive.
“Platform ticket prices have been lowered to 10 in a total of 14 railway stations. Diwali and Chhath Puja caused the rates to soar to 50, which have since been lowered, “Said Northern Railways’ Senior Divisional Commercial Manager (DCM), Rekha Sharma.
In the meantime, Southern Railways had also raised the cost of platform tickets at a number of stations, including Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh, to reduce crowding.
Eight significant railway stations in Chennai and its suburbs had their platform ticket costs increased by Southern Railways. On October 1, the price of a ticket jumped from 10 to 20, and it will stay that way until January 31, 2023.
