In view of the festive season, the North Western Railway (NWR) has announced extensive preparations to handle the rush. The division plans to operate around 1,000 special train trips, which will include services within the NWR zone, trains traveling outside the region, and those passing through adjacent zones. Ahead of the Chhath festivities, in addition to regular train services, 1,500 special trains will be run over the next five days, with an average of 300 specials per day, stated press release by the Ministry of Railways on Wednesday.
North Western Railway Gears Up for Festive Rush
Speaking to ANI, General Manager, North Western Railway, Amitabh stated that key stations like Gandhinagar, Jaipur, Ajmer, and Jodhpur have designated holding areas for early-arriving passengers, all monitored by CCTV to ensure safety and smooth crowd management. He added that new Khatipura station in Jaipur, featuring six full-length platforms and advanced maintenance facilities, is expected to become operational by March 2026, further boosting the region’s railway infrastructure. . ‘Rail Madad’ portal has also been activated to addresses passenger complaints.

Eastern Railway’s Preparations
Divisional Railway Manager (DRM) Sealdah, Rajeev Saxena also highlighted Eastern Railway’s extensive steps to manage passenger rush. “We have operated 136 trains this time…8 special trains are also being operated from Kolkata…We have also created a holding area in Sealdah and Kolkata where passengers arriving early will be accommodated…To monitor the crowd, we have set up a war room, which receives live feeds from our stations…We have a large number of RPF staff,” he stated.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Railways reported that so far, a total of 11,865 trips (916 trains) have been notified, including 9,338 reserved and 2,203 unreserved trips, marking a significant increase from last year, when 7,724 Puja and Diwali special trains were run.
Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw on Thursday visited the War Room at Rail Bhavan and reviewed the railway’s preparations ahead of Chhath Puja. He interacted with the officials and urged them to ensure passengers’ comfort and security during the festive period.
