NOIDA: A 19-year-old reportedly struck his father to death with a brick and then went to sleep in another room in their house in the Safrabad area of the city on Sunday. Police say Uday and his father Gautam (40), both daily wage laborers, were intoxicated at the time. Police say Uday was pressing his father to transfer the ownership of a shop he owned to Uday, but Gautam refused, which led to the fatal fight.
The incident came to the attention of police around 7:00 a.m., after Gautam’s brother Deepak informed the Sector 113 police station. When police arrived they found Gautam’s body on his bed with serious injuries to his head and face. Police recovered a brick from the house that contained blood on it.
“Initial investigation revealed frequent fights between the father and son over property matters. Both consumed liquor daily, which escalated their disputes. Due to this routine, relatives didn’t pay much attention to their arguments,” a senior police officer said.
ACP-3 Twinkle Jain stated that the dispute was over money from a shop Gautam owned and wanted to sell. “Gautam had received an advance payment for the shop sale. A dispute over this led to the murder,” she said. Uday, found sleeping in an adjacent room, was arrested on Sunday morning.
An FIR has been registered under BNS section 103 (murder). Deepak indicated to cops that Uday was an alcoholic; he was also a drug addict. It gets worse, as Uday was Gautam’s son from his first wife. In 2010, Gautam’s first wife left him, taking their daughter with her. The complainant, Gautam’s second wife, indicated that she died in a fire in 2016.
