Noida Man Posing As Railway Official Arrested For Duping 10 People Of Over Rs 75 Lakh

A man from Noida has been arrested for allegedly posing as a railway official and duping at least 10 people of more than ₹75 lakh by promising them jobs in the Indian Railways and assistance in obtaining pistol licences.

Noida police on Monday arrested a 49-year-old man for allegedly duping people on the pretext of offering a government job, police said, adding that he used to offer jobs at Rs 7.5 lakh. The Baraula resident Prashant Kumar from Sector 49 Noida is a postgraduate pass-out.

A complaint by Meerut resident Gyanendra Singh at Sector 63, Noida, led to the arrest of suspect Prashant Kumar for duping him to the tune of ₹1.71 lakh for obtaining a pistol licence and providing government employment in railways, according to SHO Avdesh Pratap Singh.

The suspect, Kumar, visited Singh at his BPO location in G Block of Sector 63 in November 2024 while presenting a fake ID that he employed as a travelling ticket examiner in Indian Railways, according to SHO testimony.

Kumar called Singh to check vacancies for his acquaintances at BPO. As Kumar posted himself as a government employee, Singh entertained him and saved his mobile number,” said the SHO, as quoted by HT, adding that later Kumar visited Singh and asked him to arrange a pistol licence.

Kumar promised to secure the licence before accepting ₹71,000 from Singh. Later, he took Rs 1 lakh on the pretext of placing his relative at Railway. When Singh did not receive a licence and job, he approached the police.

Central Noida District Shakti Mohan Avasthy stated that Kumar obtained ₹1 lakh from victims before disabling their contact numbers. "After taking ₹1 lakh in advance, he used to block the numbers. Recently he also duped a Delhi-based man of ₹4 lakh for assuring them to employ their four family members in railways,” he said.

The Sector 63 police station registered a case of criminal breach of trust charges along with personation, cheating, and cheating offences against the suspect.
