The Noida authority has decided to revamp the Noida-Greater Noida Expressway, which faces heavy traffic congestion, especially during peak hours, and is prone to accidents due to a lack of proper signboards and necessary markers.
“We will take multiple measures as suggested in the survey with an aim to improve traffic flow and ensure the safety of motorists on the 25km Noida-Greater Noida Expressway. These changes will include introducing proper markings and signage to clearly indicate entry and exit points for various sectors, besides addressing current challenges caused by inadequate lighting and lack of signage,” said Lokesh M, chief executive officer of the Noida authority, as quoted HT.
The Noida-Greater Noida Expressway is a vital route connecting several areas of Noida and Greater Noida, while also serving as a major corridor for long-distance travelers.
Previously, the authority had enlisted the Regional Centre for Urban and Environmental Studies (RCUES) to conduct a survey of the expressway. Based on the findings, the authority plans to implement several measures aimed at improving traffic flow and reducing congestion. A new tender is likely to be issued to select an expert agency that will carry out the proposed modifications.
During the survey, RCUES identified several issues, including the absence of crucial cats-eye reflectors that are essential for visibility at night, as well as a lack of proper signboards indicating entry and exit points.
The survey also found that bollards, which are necessary for lane demarcation and safety, were missing in various stretches of the expressway.
