In a shocking incident, a former employee of a Noida-based private company has been arrested for claiming fake input tax credit of Rs 1.8 crore. Abhinav Tyagi, a resident of Greater Noida’s Bisrakh area and a native of Moradabad, is accused of preparing fake invoices worth about Rs 10 crore to defraud the Goods and Services Tax (GST) system and obtain fake credit.
Tyagi, who was working in the company’s accounts department, took advantage of his job to manipulate the filings on the GST and tax return portals. Police believe he carried out the fraud along with an accomplice.
“On Saturday, cyber police, Noida, arrested Abhinav Tyagi. He had created fake invoices worth about Rs 10 crore to claim GST of Rs 1.8 crore,” Shavya Goyal, additional deputy commissioner of police (central Noida), told PTI.
