In July, an Axis Bank employee in Noida ended her life by consuming poison after receiving a termination email. Her suicide note disclosed that persistent mental and physical abuse from her coworkers led her to make this tragic decision.
A report states that 27-year-old Shivani Gupta started working as a relationship officer at Axis Bank in Sector 128, Noida, last October. Last Friday, she tragically took her own life by reportedly ingesting poison in her room, leaving behind a five-page suicide note.
The suicide note details that Shivani Gupta named six of her office colleagues, including a sales manager and an area sales manager, as contributors to her distress. It reveals that she faced six months of abusive language at work, which significantly impacted her mental health and led her to seek help from a psychiatrist at Vimhans. The note identifies a female colleague as her primary tormentor, who frequently argued with her over minor issues and used derogatory terms such as “bandariya” (monkey) and “dimag se pagal” (mad). Additionally, it describes how her colleagues mocked her when her hands shook, likely due to the stress she was experiencing.

Shivani reported the harassment to her sales manager and area sales manager multiple times, but instead of providing support, they blamed her. When she requested that action be taken against her colleagues, she was advised to resign and leave.
In her note, Shivani recounts two specific incidents: On June 29, a colleague and four others were abusive when she asked them to clean up after having lunch near her workstation. On July 9, a confrontation with the same colleague escalated into physical violence. Despite reporting this incident, her seniors sided with the colleague and took disciplinary action against Shivani. She chose not to inform her family to avoid causing them distress.
On the final page of her note, she asked her brother to care for her family and to take action against her colleagues. She also provided her bank details and PINs. Shivani’s brother, Gaurav, has filed a complaint against her colleagues, stating, “My sister had told us that some of her colleagues had been harassing her mentally and physically for the past six months.”
