As Noida generating around 800 tonnes of waste daily, the Noida Authority has approved the construction of two solid waste processing plants as part of the city’s broader environmental strategy.
These plants will handle 80 tonnes of municipal waste daily, with a focus on sustainability. Of this, 25 tonnes of wet waste will be converted into biogas and fertilizer, while the remaining 15 tonnes of dry waste will be segregated for recycling.
This comprehensive approach aims to significantly reduce the city’s environmental footprint by transforming a substantial portion of its waste into reusable materials. The specific locations and agency to set up the plants are yet to be determined.
The agency will cover all costs involved in establishing and running the plants, generating revenue through waste collection fees and the sale of processed byproducts. A portion of the proceeds will be shared with the Noida Authority.
The operational agreement will span 15 years, with the possibility of a three-year extension based on performance, said officials adding that during this period, the Authority will provide the land free of charge, though it must be returned after the contract ends.
