The Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) has revealed that there would be a disruption of water supply in half of the areas of the city. The areas supplied with water from Chandu Budhera Water Treatment Plant are observing a 30-hour cut off of water supply that began at 11:00 am on Monday.
The normal water supply is scheduled to come up again the next day (Tuesday) by around 5:00 pm. The GMDA staff has confirmed that there would be no water from the master water supply of Chandu plant from 11 am on April 7 to 5 pm on April 8 .Water supply has been restrained for this long time period as from the water plant due to the connection of the fourth phase 100 MLD plant to the existing pipeline from the plant to Chandu plant.
These Areas Will Stay Impacted
The areas to experience shutdown include Sector 4, Sector 5, Sector 7, Sector 9, Sector 11 and 12, Sector 81 to 115, Dayanand Colony, Old Gurugram, Laxman Vihar, and Choti Mata Boosting Station. Apart from that, the Village Chandu and Dhankot, Sector 10, Sector 33, Sector 37D and 38, and Boosting Station Sector 51 (Sector 42-74, Village Badshahpur) will also not be supplied with water.
Gurugram to get 100 MLD new water supplies after the new unit Once the unit is commissioned, the city will get 100 MLD of new water supply. The new addition is expected to provide major relief to the severe drinking water crisis that berates the city during summer time. Presently, the capacity of the Chandu Budhera plant is 300 MLD. With the commissioning of the new unit, the capacity of the plant will become 400 MLD.
It is important to point out that for three months a year, from April to June, demand for water is higher than the supply. The irrigation department delivers canal water to GMDA’s Chandu Budhera and Basai water treatment plants. Both plants have a total capacity of 570 MLD, but from June to September, the demand increases to higher than 600 MLD. Therefore, the corporation is running their borewells to address the deficit.
