West Bengal Violence: West Bengal Director-General of Police (DGP) M. Malaviya on Friday rejected the claims of BJP that on July 8 a woman was forcibly pulled out from a polling booth and her clothes were torn saying that no such incident occurred.

He formed that on July 13, SP Howrah Rural received a complaint by email from BJP regrading the incident following which the investigation was conducted. “During the probe, evidence indicated that no such incident occurred as Police and Central Forces were present in the polling booth at the time of Panchayat polls,” Malaviya said.

“On 13 July, SP Howrah Rural received a complaint by email from BJP that on July 8 a woman was forcibly pulled out from a polling booth in Howrah’s Panchla and her clothes were torn. On this complaint, police were directed to file FIR and conduct further investigation. During probe, evidence shows that no such incident occurred. Police and Central Forces were present in the polling booth further probe is underway,” West Bengal DGP M. Malaviya said, on BJP panchayat poll candidate allegedly assaulted and stripped in Howrah’s Panchla.

BJP MP Locket Chatterjee broke down in tears while addressing the media and alleged that during the panchayat polls, a BJP worker was dragged out from the polling station, her clothes were torn and she was paraded naked by the TMC.

“She said that the Congress leaders like Priyanka Gandhi and Sonia Gandhi did not speak a word on this and neither did West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee despite being a woman,” Chatterjee said.

She alleged that the woman was assaulted and thrown outside by dragging her hair and the police were asked to let go.

The statement came following a the incident came light when the gram sabha candidate from BJP alleged that she was physically assaulted and molested by the TMC workers.

The victim alleged that she was forced to strip naked by Trinamool goons who later paraded her around the village on July 8.
